چکیده

A method to accurately estimate the thickness of a paramagnetic film conductor from the difference in the complex impedance between a circular solenoid coil equipped with a conductor and a similar one without a conductor has been studied. As for aluminum films of a thickness of 15 to 60 um and a frequency range of 10 to 500 kHz, the discrepancy between the measured values using this method and those using a micrometer stayed within 3%.

Casimir Force Calculations near the Insulator-conductor Transition in Gold Thin Films

We present theoretical calculations of the Casimir force for Au thin films near the insulator-conductor transition that has been observed experimentally. The dielectric function of the Au thin films is described by the Drude-Smith model. The parameters needed to model the dielectric function such as the relaxation time, plasma frequency and the backscattering constant depend on the thickness of...

Litre Superconducting Test Coil . Strength Calculations and Construction

Within the scope of our research program for a 25 kA superconducting rectifier, we have built a 25 kA S.C. coil being a single layer solenoid with a bore of 0.45 meter and a volume of 52 litre. The starting point for the design was to avoid any metallic structural material. This unique coil consists of 26 turns of a Rutherford cable in one layer covered at the outside with 6 millimeter glassfib...

Force measurements of a superconducting-film actuator for a cryogenic interferometric gravitational-wave detector

We measured forces applied by an actuator with a YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) film at near 77 K for the Large-scale Cryogenic Gravitational-wave Telescope (LCGT) project. An actuator consisting of both a YBCO film of 1.6 μm thickness and 0.81 cm area and a solenoid coil exerted a force of up to 0.2 mN on a test mass. The presented actuator system can be used to displace the mirror of LCGT for fringe lock o...

Thin Film Thickness Measurement Using Conduction and Infrared Transmission

Many applications in a diverse demographic of engineering fields require knowledge of the thickness of thin films and coatings. An example of some applications for which thin film thickness is critical are semiconductors, optics, and protective coatings. There are various methods for measuring thin film thickness, however, many of them are destructive, or are only capable of measuring thickness...

Analysis of the Current Distribution in the ITER CS-Insert Model Coil Conductor by Self Field Measurements

Non-uniformities in the paths of the currents in a Cable-In-Conduit Conductor (CICC), resistive or inductive, will result into an unbalanced current distribution. The current nonuniformity may affect the performance of a magnet system and it is therefore essential to evaluate this phenomenon. The current distribution in the Central Solenoid Insert Coil (CSIC) from the Central Solenoid Model Coi...
